Shimano SPD-SL Cleats

With these Shimano SPD-SL cleats for road bike pedals, you'll be securely fastened to your pedal and will easily clip in and out. These SPD-SL cleats are available in three variants: yellow, blue and red. These each allow for a different degree of float.

Yellow Cleats
Yellow cleats have the highest degree of float. These are the standard cleats that come with most Shimano road bike pedals. These cleats have 6 degrees of float, which gives you a lot of freedom of movement when cycling. The advantage of these cleats is that you can ride in comfort, and the chance of discomfort in your knees or other body parts is lower. The disadvantage is that you lose pedalling energy because of the movement of your foot.
This cleat is used by many groups of road cyclists, ranging from recreational to professional. However, a lot of avid cyclists opt for a cleat with less float.

Blue Cleats
These blue cleats have 2 degrees of float, which is less than the yellow cleats. This means that the foot's freedom of movement is reduced when clipped into the pedal, resulting in less energy loss during cycling. The disadvantage of decreased float is that it's more difficult to find an ideal foot position while cycling, which increases the risk of knee problems. To avoid this, the cleat must be adjusted with greater precision.

Red Cleats
Shimano's red cleats have no float at all. This means that the foot has no freedom of movement while you're cycling, which means that almost all energy benefits the pedalling movement. This allows you to ride faster and have more control when using this pedal, which is why these cleats are often used by competitive cyclists. The disadvantage of these cleats is that they have to be finetuned very precisely. If the cleats are not properly adjusted, there's a greatly increased risk of knee complaints or problems with other body parts.

• Red: 0 degrees of float
• Blue: 2 degrees of float

The cleats come as a pair. They come with mounting hardware, 6 screws and 6 rings. Remember to use assembly paste on the screws, so they can easily be removed again later.

Past op

• Racefietsschoenen met een 3-bouts (3-bolt) montagepatroon in de zool.
• Alle Shimano SPD-SL pedalen, zoals 105, Ultegra en Dura-Ace.

Past niet op

• Mountainbikeschoenen met een 2-bouts (SPD) montagepatroon: hiervoor heb je 2-bouts SPD schoenplaatjes nodig, geen SPD-SL.
• Look Keo-pedalen: die hebben een eigen plaatjesvorm en zijn niet uitwisselbaar met SPD-SL, ook al past de schoen op beide systemen.

Twijfel je? Zo check je het
Kijk op de zool van je fietsschoen: zie je 3 losse boutgaten in een driehoekvorm, dan heb je een 3-bouts systeem en passen deze SPD-SL schoenplaatjes. Zie je 2 boutgaten dicht bij elkaar, dan heb je een 2-bouts SPD-schoen en heb je andere plaatjes nodig. Twijfel je over je pedalen, check dan of er "SPD-SL" op staat.

Je monteert deze schoenplaatjes zelf, met een inbussleutel. Gebruik altijd montagevet, zodat de boutjes niet vastroesten aan de schoen en je ze nooit meer kan vervangen.

Eerste montage: zet je het plaatje los vast, klik je schoen in het pedaal om te checken of de positie klopt, en draai dan pas de bouten definitief vast.
Vervanging: markeer de positie van het oude plaatje, zodat je het nieuwe plaatje in precies dezelfde positie kan monteren.

In beide gevallen na de eerste paar keer fietsen de boutje aandraaien, aangezien deze los kunnen trillen.
